Pursue Your Destiny as The Creature in ‘The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature’
Every horror fan knows (or should know) about the literary classic by Mary Shelley. Of course, Hollywood has given us its own classic interpretation thanks to James Whale and Boris Karloff, and now thanks to developer La Belle Games, you’ll be able to do so, too!
Launching on Halloween (October 31st, if you’re curious), publisher ARTE France and La Belle Games have announced narrative adventure game The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature for Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android. The game has you playing as The Creature, where you must forge your own story. Ignorant of the concepts of good and evil, you will have to explore the vast world and experience both the joy and sorrow life offers.
The game features a a point-and-click interface, where each decision not only affects the story’s outcome, but also your surroundings. Yeah, it might sound out there, but if you’ve read the original novel (or have even seen the 1931 original), you know the existential crisis of The Creature, and his longing for companionship. It’s definitely a not full-on horror, which is what this game hopes to capitalize on. Hit up the official website for more information on the game.

Gamble for Your Life in a Horror Slot Machine Roguelike ‘DEAD SPIN’ [Trailer]
Horror fans who can’t get enough of roguelike deckbuilders have another one on the way, thanks to developer Strong Monkey Games’ horror slot machine title, DEAD SPIN. And you won’t have to wait long to try it out, as the developer has announced a public playtest that you can jump into from now until July 19th.
The playtest includes a short tutorial before the first real spin, after which you’ll face off against four opponents, eachs with their own tricks, skills, and bad intentions. There are also unlockable items (100+, to be exact) for different builds and survival strategies. The devs hope to “tune the machine” with the playtest before the game’s eventual launch later this year on Steam.
Blending slot-machine gameplay with deckbuilding strategy, DEAD SPIN throws players into slot-machine duels against lunatic gamblers in an abandoned casino. Each run in DEAD SPIN is a deadly challenge against more than 8 unique opponents. Each opponent brings their own deck, skills, and strategy, forcing players to adapt their build around whatever random items they find. Lose, and the run starts over under new conditions. Win, and new items may be unlocked for future runs.
With seven reels symbol types, every run is about deciding which symbols to prioritize for the strongest trigger chains. When the odds turn against you, use trinkets to outsmart the rules. You can also exploit the game’s economy by choosing coins that trigger off your strategy and turn the casino’s economy against itself.
The whole thing is wrapped in a visual style that draws from late ’90s and early ’00s horror aesthetics, blended with a grimy VHS-inspired atmosphere with dark, grotesque humor.
