Gameplay From Latest ‘Witchfire’ Demo Released; Team Updates Progress

Published

on

It’s been quiet for a while in regards to The Astronauts’ upcoming fantasy shooter Witchfire, so what are the devs to do but drop a little update on the official site in regards to their second internal demo for the title.

The Astronauts’ team member Adrian Chmielarz goes over the improvements to their previous demo, including more weapons, spells, enemies (including a boss), new areas, and an improved hud. But hey, words are cheap, so The Astronauts have also released a short video showcasing said improvements.

“You arrive at the shore, and trigger the witch’s alarm system. The witch totem reacts to your presence, and brings the idling, dead Guardians of the Witch back to life. Then you have to fight waves of enemies, each and all spawned with the witchfire burning inside the totem. After exhausting the totem’s power, the final protection spell is unlocked in a desperate attempt to kill you. Things happen, you win and you can move onto the next area.”

The update concludes with their review of what went right, and what remains to improve. The next step for the team is to focus on production. The final “demo” (in quotes, as it’s more of a vertical slice than a demo) is going to be Internal Demo 3 but “it’s rather going to be a byproduct of the production rather than a goal.”

Chmielarz caps things off with answering a fan question regarding the game’s perceived similarities to the PS2 cult classic Darkwatch. Hey, that’s not a bad thing.

Witchfire is still without a release date, but is expected on PC.

Developer Harebrained Scheme gave those eager to check out their upcoming survival horror RPG GRAFT some much-welcomed meat in the form of a new story trailer. The trailer not only touches on the body horror aspect of the game, but also the relationship you share with someone you care about, and the potential consequences you face on your journey through structure known as The Arc.

Currently in development for release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, GRAFT sees you attempting to escape the aforementioned rotting space station. The Arc is a continent-sized station that was once filled with biomechanically enhanced citizens, all working toward some greater purpose lost to time. Now the station is in ruins, its citizens now unrecognizable. And you have no idea how you got here.

In order to escape, you must tear pieces from your enemies to transform yourself into something new—something capable of surviving the horrors that prowl around you. Every Graft brings with it some piece of its previous owner’s identity, changing more than just your physical body.

However, you are not the only survivor in the desolation. Ancient feral experiments, strange abominations, and ruthless agents of a mad AI stalk you. You must use the tools in your growing arsenal as you fight through the horrors in a visceral new twist on classic survival horror combat. Know when to fight, and manage your resources carefully in order to escape alive.
