Modder Brings ‘Dark Souls 2’ Into 2020 With Revamped Lighting Mod

Sure, Dark Souls 2 is great and all. But since its release in 2014, other Souls-like games have come along and made its visuals look kind of dated (with all due respect). So, what’s a modder to do but to give it a spit-polish?

That’s exactly what “Flames of Old”, an upcoming graphical overhaul mod by Stayd (who has been posting updates on their Twitter for the mod), aims to do. Stayd is changing the lighting, shaders, and map design to give the lighting in Dark Souls 2 a less flat appearance. True, depending on your taste, you might prefer the original scheme. But you can’t deny how the change in lighting improves certain aspects of the game.

Stayd also intends to create a separate enemy placement mod to work with the new maps and “iron out some of the game’s rough patches.” They’re currently using Twitter and Twitch to show off their progress, with the ultimate goal to release the mod on ModDB.
