In the mood for another Soulslike action RPG? It’s not quite Blasphemous, but publisher Playstack and developer Cold Symmetry’s Mortal Shell has a few tricks up its sleeve.
Awakening as an empty vessel, you enter a shattered and twisted world where the remains of humanity wither and rot. Implored to do the bidding of the mysterious “Dark Father,” you must traverse this tattered landscape and track down hidden sanctums of devout followers. There, players must overcome formidable foes and harvest the sacred glands. You won’t be truly alone when the dead litter your path: Scattered across this land are the remnant anima of lost warriors who can be inhabited to gain their unique abilities and knowledge of weapons.
As the synopsis implies, what’s unique about Mortal Shell is the ability to occupy the bodies of fallen warriors, each with a specific strength and style of play. Much like other Souls games, you must rely on strategic and deliberate combat decisions to win. You also have the ability to craft and upgrade your weapons during your non-linear campaign.
And of course, you’ll be facing grotesque monstrosities along your way. No release date as of yet, although the game is headed to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Head over to the official site for more info on the game, as well as the opportunity to sign up for the closed beta.
