Dread X Collection’s Playable Trailer for “Summer Night” Mimics Old School Tiger Electronics Games [Exclusive]

Launching next Tuesday, May 26th comes the “Dread X Collection”, a sampling of 10 dream horror projects from aspiring independent developers that pays tribute to the concept of a “Playable Trailer” pioneered by the canceled Kojima project P.T..

Rather than repeating the P.T. formula with “spooky hallway” clones, these unique projects explore the boundaries of horror and insanity in a variety of new ways, explains the press release that announces an anthology of ten playable teasers from the following solo developers: Airdorf, Lovely Hellplace, Mahelyk (Kyle Frost), Oddbreeze, Scythe Dev Team, SecretCowLevel, Snowrunner Games, Strange Scaffold, David Szymanski, and Torple Dook.

Bloody Disgusting has the first look at shots from two of the P.T.s, Airdorf’s Summer Night, above, and LovelyHellplace’s Shatter.

Summer Night is a light-hearted LCD handheld adventure where you run around your backyard picking toadstools, chasing monkeys, and nothing scary happens!” said Airdorf (FAITH) in a statement to Bloody.

“I mimicked the super lo-fi visuals of Tiger Electronics handheld games from the 90s,” he adds. “It was a challenge trying to nail the ‘style’ while keeping the overall design flexible enough to craft the horror experience I wanted…My suggestion: wear headphones.”

We’ve also been provided with a shot from LovelyHellplace’s Shatter, as well as the trailer for all ten P.T.s below.

The Dread X Collection will be available May 26 for $7 on PC, with $2 from each sale going to Doctors Without Borders (pending any discount promotions).

‘Dying Light 2’ Receives New Difficulty Mode and More With “Nightmare Mode” Update [Trailer]

Not to be outdone by Dead Island 2‘s recent expansion, Techland has announced that Dying Light 2 is getting an update of it’s own with the much-requested Nightmare Mode, which adds “the hardest and most immersive difficulty yet” to the game, along with an array of additional elements.

Nightmare Mode for Dying Light 2 forces players to rely on tactics and strategic management of resources in order to survive. The new difficulty introduces changes to stamina management, called the Tactical Stamina system, limited HUD options for better immersion, and a flickering flashlight that goes out when used for too long. These and other additions aim to heighten the atmosphere give the overall experience a needed refresh for veteran players. Those who manage to complete the game on this highest difficulty will be rewarded with the memorable Waltz Outfit.

The Nightmare Mode Update adds more than just the new difficulty. New adjustments to the Infected and night experience are also part of the update. What’s more, co-op players will be glad to hear they will now be able to take on the Community Maps with up to three friends. Archers will get reworked power shot mechanics. And you even have the opportunity to change the appearance of the Grappling Hook.

Dying Light 2 is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
