‘Resident Evil 3’ Devs Explain Nemesis Redesign Was to Connect it With ‘Resident Evil 4’

While Capcom hasn’t officially announced it, a remake of Resident Evil 4 is rumoured to be on the way. In an interview with PlayStation Blog, the Resident Evil 3 remake staff discuss the changes that they made with the design of Nemesis in order to better connect that game with Resident Evil 4.

The interview delves into the retconning of Resident Evil lore, kicking off with the topic of Nemesis’ redesign. The development team state the redesign was done in order to better place him within the series’ timeline. Part of that was the introduction of Nemesis using parasites to infect zombies. The parasites were added by the team “due to the presence of Ganado in Resident Evil 4.”

“Ganado are humanoid enemies that are created through being infected with the Plagas parasite, the original basis for NE-α,” explains the team. “We wanted NE-α infected enemies to be visually similar to the Plagas-infected Ganados as a means for fans to piece together how Nemesis fits within the whole Resident Evil franchise.”

Keep in mind that in the original Resident Evil 4, the Umbrella corporation is still investigating Plagas. The fact that the devs state this, in spite of the original canon, doesn’t outright confirm that the existence of the RE4 remake, but infers that something’s brewing.

As previously reported, Capcom studio M-Two, which had co-developed the RE3 remake, is also involved with the RE4 remake. This was reported separately by both Video Games Chronicle and Twitter user Dusk Golem, who has also leaked info regarding Resident Evil 8.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is rumoured to appear in 2022, while Resident Evil 8 is rumoured for a 2021 release.

Resident Evil 3 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Definitive Edition of Throwback Survival Horror Game ‘Doctor Viscera’ Launches June 23 [Trailer]

For those who enjoy their survival horror gaming with a side of old-school cheese, you have Liminal Road’s Doctor Viscera. Released last October on Steam, the game is set to receive its Definitive Edition next week on June 23rd, with plans for a release on consoles to be shared soon. The Doctor Viscera: Definitive Edition will include a variety of improvements, adjustments, and new content designed to make the experience even more intense. All of this content will be available free to existing owners.

For those not in the know, Doctor Viscera is a throwback survival horror title with PSX-inspired visuals, where you must escape the abandoned GrimmHaus Asylum. You must explore the asylum’s various rooms, find useful items, and solve puzzles to unlock new areas and discover escape routes. At the same time, you’ll need to be on the lookout for the Doctor and his grotesque experiments.

The biggest addition to the Definitive Edition is the Nurse, a brand-new enemy who will actively pursue players throughout the campaign. Although slower than the eponymous doctor, the nurse introduces a completely different gameplay dynamic by using ranged attacks with a firearm, forcing players to rethink their routes, strategies, and survival tactics.

Under certain circumstances, you can disarm the Nurse, creating entirely new situations and possibilities within the game.

Doctor Viscera: Definitive Edition also introduces a new area to the map, featuring a tram system. In addition to serving as a new exploration route, it can also be used to quickly escape pursuers and travel between different sections of the asylum.

The update also brings improvements across multiple aspects of the experience, including:

  • Level design changes
  • Puzzle redesigns
  • Performance optimizations
  • New immersive audio system
  • Controller support
  • New menu interfaces
