‘Someday You’ll Return’ Devs Alter Game Content to Improve Experience

Published

on

In a surprising move, CBE Software has made the decision to remove content from their newly-released title Someday You’ll Return in favor of improving the overall game. The move comes after receiving feedback from customers, which involved removing hours of gameplay content in order to maintain the “taught, narrative-driven horror that fans loved.”

“After reading feedback from our customers, it became clear to us that some parts of the game, mostly in the second half, were not enjoyed as we had expected them to be,” explains CBE Software co-founder Jan Kavan in a press release. “We took a hard look at the game and asked ourselves how we could make it better. While it is very important for us to remain true to our vision for the game, we felt if there were ways we could make improvements without compromise, we should do this even if it means sacrificing months of hard work.”

The cut content includes some of the puzzles and sequences that “were not adding any value to the main game story”. Fans can still access some of the “missing” areas if they look hard enough, however. Another mechanic that wasn’t well-received was stealth. To compensate, the devs have added a new, in-game potion called “Devil’s Pact”. This potion turns the player almost invisible to enemies during stealth sequences. “Now players who dislike stealth sequences can drink the potion and through them easily, while players who enjoy being stealthy can keep playing the original version. We strongly believe that offering this choice is the best option for both types of players.”

Someday You’ll Return is out now on Steam, with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions scheduled for development later this year.

Explore a Mysterious Island for Lost Riches in Co-Op Horror Adventure ‘Treasure Cove’ [Trailer]

Published

Not to be confused with the 1992 educational sidescroller, Team5 has revealed the Steam page for its upcoming co-op title, Treasure Cove. Launching later this fall, this survival horror title sees you and your friends set out to explore a mysterious island in search of lost treasures. Of course, it’s never than simple, as exploring the island reveals more than you or your friends were expecting.

Details are still to come on the gameplay loop, but the basics for Treasure Cove have you and your squad navigating the island with a map and proximity voice chat in classic treasure-hunting style, with various gadgets to assist you in your search. Once you think you’ve found the spot, you start digging, and if you’ve read the map correctly, you’re rewarded with riches.

But as you might expect, digging up the treasure, extracting it and making it back to your boat isn’t so simple. Creatures are lurking in the darkness, and once they spot you, you’re on the run. Your only way of defense is to use your light, but even then, when you’re lugging around cursed treasure, you’re not safe for long. You and your team will need to keep quiet in order to avoid detection and survive.

If you do make it out alive, you can sell your treasures and buy better equipment for the next hunt.

Currently, the devteam is planning to have a playtest in the future, for which you can head over to the official site to sign up for the mailing list for when it arrives.
