The Astronauts’ Dark Fantasy FPS ‘Witchfire’ Now in Full Production

Published

on

After seemingly being talked about for the past couple of years by developer The Astronauts, their dark fantasy shooter Witchfire is finally entering full production. You would think that with the numerous updates the team has posted to Twitter and their official site regarding the game that it’s been in development this entire time. Which it has.

“Playdead, a Danish game developer, released Limbo in 2010. It took them six years to make the next game, Inside,” The Astronauts’ Adrian Chmielarz explains at the start of the latest blog entry. “It’s been four years since then, and we still don’t even know the title of their next project.”

Chmielarz goes on, postulating that when an indie studio has a properly successful game, instead of speeding headlong into production on a follow-up, the studio “somehow slows down instead of speeding up”. Chmielarz explains that this is due to the rigors of production, combined with the task of finding “the game” and making sure that the idea is clear before production begins in earnest.

This all leads up to Chmielarz stating that Witchfire is now in “full production”, saying that their team of eight developers “know exactly what the game is”. The update (which Chmielarz admits amounts to “yeah of course we’re still making the game”) includes a few screenshots of new areas, enemies and a video of the animation/AI systems for Witchfire.

Chmielarz laments that “it’s still an unknown number of seasons before the game is ready”, but quips that the team is “doing the best we can, though!”.

Witchfire is due out for PC.

Come Face to Face With the Zombie Menace in the Story Trailer for ‘Zombie Army VR’ [Watch]

While there’s no definitive release date just yet, Rebellion is teasing fans with a new story trailer for the upcoming Zombie Army VR, which is expected to arrive later this year. The new trailer gives fans and prospective players a glimpse at the Zombie Army VR story campaign, which as you might have guessed, involves occult magic, waves of zombies, and plenty of headshots.

The game’s campaign takes place alongside the events of the Zombie Army series, and sees you take to the field as one of the Deadhunters, an elite squad that is hunting down zombie war criminals. You must fight your way through undead hordes near the bombed-out city of Nuremberg to help Captain Hermann Wolff, the Deadhunter’s legendary leader, find his scattered family and fight to free Europe from the zombie apocalypse.

As you navigate the full-length story campaign either alone or with an ally, you’ll have access to an arsenal of authentic World War II weaponry, including sniper rifles, submachine guns, pistols and more. As one would expect, VR brings a new level of immersion to the action of the Zombie Army series, which will require you to “get to grips” with using your hands to aim your rifle, dual-wield your side arm with a submachine gun, master reloading drills, and tossing grenades.

Zombie Army VR is currently in development for the PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 2, 3, Pro, Oculus Rift and PC headsets via Steam.
