‘Axiom Verge 2’ Delayed to 2021

Published

on

As the latest blog entry over at Thomas Happ Games proclaims, the legacy of 2020 continues. That legacy unfortunately includes the upcoming Axiom Verge 2, which has been delayed from its original Fall 2020 release to the first half of 2021.

Happ explains in his blog that “despite doing everything I could to make good on my prediction [of a 2020 release], it will not come to pass. I apologize to all of Axiom Verge’s fans who have been waiting to learn more about this universe. For people who don’t want to bother reading the entire blog post, the closest I’ll go to making another prediction is that it will be out in the first half of 2021.”

Despite what you might presume, COVID wasn’t the main factor in the delay. Rather, according to Happ, there were “a number of factors”. Enemy AI being more sophisticated than the first game being a factor, along with the art style (which is different than the Giger-esque stylings of the first game) and the new weapon that advances what the player was able to do with the first game’s Address Disruptor tool.

It’s nevertheless disappointing, but it seems strangely par for the course this year for many things.

Axiom Verge 2 will release for the Nintendo Switch. No word yet on additional ports.
