New Documentary Focuses on The Making of ‘Alien: Isolation’

Published

on

While one could argue that Alien: Isolation is the greatest game ever based on the Alien franchise, there’s no question that it delivered so hard that we’re still pining for a sequel six years after its release. As such, wouldn’t it be nice if we had a making-of doc of sorts to show just what Sega and Creative Assembly had to do in order to bring us this modern classic?

Leave it to the folks at Noclip, who have done just that. Their new documentary features numerous interviews with the developers behind the game, and explores the changes and initial ideas that Creative Assembly had for the game. Not to mention how the project almost didn’t see the light of day due to Sega’s previous Alien game, Colonial Marines.

Some of the more interesting tidbits from the documentary (don’t worry, there’s plenty) include how Creative Assembly developed its pitch for Isolation in secret after initially being turned down by Sega for an Alien survival horror game, and how Isolation was first intended to be played from a third-person perspective.

Alien Isolation is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Kicking off on July 2 and running until July 29, the limited-time collaboration will introduce Monster Hunter–inspired elements into the post-apocalyptic world of Resident Evil Survival Unit, adding large-scale monster encounters to the game’s strategic systems.

Details on the collaboration are being kept under wraps for now, but during the event, players will be able to participate in collaboration-exclusive in-game events that will earn them special rewards inspired by the Monster Hunter series. We do get a brief teaser trailer for the upcoming event, which in addition to teasing various monsters for players to battle, also promises new units for players to recruit.

Set in a parallel world inspired by the Resident Evil universe, the game features an original storyline and real-time strategic gameplay designed for mobile platforms. Players will build bases, secure resources, and battle creatures in a collapsed city. Iconic characters such as Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine appear throughout the game, allowing for team formations that bring together characters from across the Resident Evil franchise, enabling unique combinations not seen in the original titles.
