‘DOOM Eternal’ Not Cancelled For Nintendo Switch, But Will Now Be Digital-Only

Published

on

With DOOM Eternal being nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020, Switch fans are probably wondering just where their version of the game is, especially since the holiday season is right around the corner. It probably isn’t helping matters with reports of Gamestop reportedly cancelling pre-orders for the Switch version, to which fans have been asking Bethesda for an update.

Bethesda in turn has responded on Twitter, stating that they weren’t making any announcements at this time. However, that changed when multiple outlets reached out to Bethesda, who are now saying that the physical version of the game is now cancelled, and that it will be a digital release.

When inquiring about the status of the game by IGN, Bethesda had this to say: “While Doom Eternal is 100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in cancelled pre-orders. Affected customers will receive full refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information. Stay tuned for much more information coming later this month.”

It’s no doubt a mixed bag for Switch fans who’ve been waiting since DOOM Eternal‘s launch back in March. But at the very least, Bethesda still seems committed to the port (especially after doing an impressive job with the original DDOM port). There’s no word on if the Switch version of DOOM Eternal will include the title’s first expansion, The Ancient Gods – Part 1, so we’ll still have to wait and see what Bethesda says later this month.

DOOM Eternal is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with versions for PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series coming soon.
