Jukai Studio Announces Survival Horror Soulslike ‘Stray Souls’ Arrives Later This Year [Trailer]

Jukai Studio dropped a teaser for their upcoming tribute to old-school Survival Horror titles in Stray Souls last year, and now they’ve made it official. Jukai Studio, alongside publisher Versus Evil, have announced via IGN that Stray Souls will be coming to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series later this year.

Jukai describes Stray Souls as combining elements of Japanese survival horror games “with an array of new tricks, including a variety of randomized systems where enemy encounters, item placement, paranormal activity and even weather patterns”, ensuring that no two playthroughs are the same. That’s in addition to the gameplay elements being a mix of classic Survival Horror combat with “soulslike precision” that aims to bring more variety to the genre.

The story for Stray Souls involves a teenager named Daniel, whose grandmother has died and left him her house. On the day that he moves in, Daniel happens to meet a mysterious girl who seems to know a lot more about the house than what he’s been told. Daniel quickly finds out for himself, as when the sun goes down, the dream house quickly spirals into a hellish situation.

Powered by the Unreal Engine 5, Jukai will also be making use of Epic’s Metahuman technology for the Stray Souls NPCs. As a result, the advanced facial animations capture a wide range of human emotion, creating a whole new level of photorealism that will no doubt enhance the terror.

During the Future Games Show, Bandai Namco and Supermassive have announced the first DLC for Little Nightmares III in “The Backstage”. Featuring new puzzles and challenges, this additional content will take players to the darkest part of the Carnevale, where they’ll meet a new character and face new perils. You won’t have to wait long to get it, either, as Little Nightmares III – The Backstage DLC will release on June 12.

In this new adventure, Low will meet Dime, a new child who wears a torch hat, which turns out to be a very helpful tool for finding their way in what lies beneath the curtains of The Carnevale. The two children will have to face new threats and use their light to find a way to save Alone from the hands of the Puppeteer.

In the original game, players meet Low and Alone, who are trapped within the Spiral, a cluster of disturbing places. The two will have to work together to survive in a dangerous world full of delusions. As they scamper and shelter on their journey to escape the grasp of an even greater threat, their senses may also lead them astray into the shadows.

Little Nightmares III is currently available for PC via SteamXbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
