‘Resident Evil’ Meets Turn-Based Strategy With ‘Vultures – Scavengers of Death’, Demo Available Now [Trailer]

Getting inspired by Resident Evil is one thing, but what happens when you take that same inspiration and mix it with turn-based strategy mechanics? Indie developer Team Vultures has an answer to that with the announcement of Vultures – Scavengers of Death, a roguelike game with elements of survival-horror that takes cues from Capcom’s classic. The team currently has a demo available on the game’s Steam page.

Originally conceived as an experiment in demaking Resident Evil, Vultures – Scavengers of Death evolved into a 3D-based game “similar to a tabletop game”. The team’s goal is to gather feedback from players in order to chart a course for the full game. “While we’ve made good progress, we’re still not entirely satisfied with the interior design of each scenario,” explains the devs. “For this reason, we’ve chosen to focus on validating the game mechanics and the overall atmosphere.”

Vultures sees you undertaking extraction missions in the city of Salento in order to recover a valuable artifact. Of course, the area has had a bit of a bioterrorist attack orchestrated by a secret cult that’s left the populace intertwined with a powerful corporation known as Eugenesys Tech, so you know what happens next.

Once Team Vultures has gathered enough feedback from the demo, they plan on eventually beginning a crowdfunding campaign to help with development.

During the Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition, publisher Wired Productions and developer LKA released a three-minute developer presentation for psychological horror game When Sirens Fall Silent, offering players a deeper look into the mystery, characters, and unsettling world of the upcoming psychological thriller.

Following two creative story-based cinematic reveals (which you can watch here and here) that introduced the game’s atmosphere, themes, and central mystery, LKA Founder and Director Luca Dalcò guides viewers further into the world of the forgotten people, revealing more of what awaits players as they uncover the truth behind a series of kidnappings and murders.

From the creators of Martha is Dead, When Sirens Fall Silent casts players as Mila, a policewoman in early 1990s Rome, Italy. Haunted by a past she’s desperate to escape, Mila is thrust into a high-profile case of kidnappings and murders. As the investigation unravels, you must not only save her from herself, but also from being consumed by the violence, mystery and confusion.

Featuring a branching, multi-layered narrative dialogue system, with a huge focus on verbal and emotional interaction, investigation and subsequent choices, players will be faced with difficult real-world topics. LKA aims to “pull no punches” with its story, but also hints at a few surprises along the way.

When Sirens Fall Silent is currently in development for PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
