Scythe Dev Team’s VR Horror Title ‘Return to Northbury Grove’ Available Now for Free on Steam! [Trailer]

If you’re a fan of tinyBuild and Scythe Dev Team’s fast food horror cooking sim Happy’s Humble Burger Farm, the team has a treat for you with their follow-up to their first-person horror game, Northbury Grove. Not only is Return to Northbury Grove, Scythe’s new immersive VR horror title, available today on Steam, it’s also available for free!

Return to Northbury Grove puts players in the virtual shoes of Liam Murphy, an aspiring actor who’s looking to land the role of a lifetime at the infamous Rock the Warehouse music festival. However, after arriving at the concert grounds, Liam ends up kidnapped and thrown into the basement of the Spector Forest Slasher’s infamous killing house. Now, Liam must use his wits and bravery to survive the various traps within the house and escape with his life.

The title is an obvious love letter to the slasher genre that requires you to practice stealth in order to avoid catching the ire of the Spector Forest Slasher. Not only are you required to keep an eye (and ear) out all around you, but the game is 100% physically simulated, requiring you to keep from bumping into anything that might cause unwanted noise. Your choices while you try to escape also matter. You’ll have to make decisions that impact your survival in real-time.

To add even more replay value, Return to Northbury Grove features adaptive AI, making no two playthroughs the same, with the killer adapting to your actions in real-time. There are also modifiers that you can unlock by beating the game to add even more challenge. That also includes something called “Happy the Humble Heifer”.

And if you’re keen on checking out the previous game in the series, you can download Northbury Grove from the team’s itch.io page.

Upcoming “Unholy Alliance” Update for ‘Cult of the Lamb’ Adds Local Co-op and More [Teaser]

Published

Cult of the Lamb players will be getting more free goodies later this summer with the Unholy Alliance update. Coming August 12, the update introduces a brand new playable character in the Goat, which coincides with the game allowing local co-op.

With the Unholy Alliance update, the entire Cult of the Lamb campaign will be playable in local co-op. Players will also be able to enjoy special 2-player versions of existing mini-games, such as Fishing and Knucklebones, as well as choose from a selection of weapons, tarot cards, curses, and corrupted relics as your cooperative crusades progress.

The Lamb and Goat can also swap weapons, deal extra damage when fighting back to back, and even deliver a critical hit when their attacks are in sync. Good news for those who prefer to stay alone in their corner: they will be able to benefit from various new powers.

In addition to the addition of cooperative play, the Unholy Alliance expansion adds several tarot cards, relics, buildings, fleeces, character traits and quests, as well as the addition of new secrets to discover.

More information on the update will be released as the launch date creeps closer. Cult of The Lamb is available now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
