The journey that is GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl is still ongoing, but the team is still making progress towards that Q1 2024 release. During PC Gamer’s PC Gaming Show, a new trailer was released for Heart of Chernobyl, dubbed “Strider”. The new trailer dives into the series’ lore, focusing on Strider, a former Monolith stalker who first appeared in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

In addition to the trailer reveal, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was also awarded the PC Gaming Show’s “Most Anticipated Game of 2024” award. The game was selected by a panel of industry legends that included Sid Meier, Tim Schafer, Cheyenne Morrin, Brian Fargo, Mariina Hallikainen, and Dean Hall.

“Firstly, it’s about you – our fans. Your passion has guided us throughout this journey, and I can never express enough gratitude for that. I consider this award a symbol of your unbreakable trust”, says Yevhen Grygorovych, CEO of GSC Game World and Game Director on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. “This game stands as the biggest and most complex game in our lives. It was ambitious from the beginning but evolved into an ultimate challenge. It holds extreme significance and a deeply personal connection for us, crafted amidst the most stressful conditions imaginable.”

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl will be available for the Xbox Series, the Xbox Game Pass, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Pre-orders are available via the official site.

‘Alone in the Dark’ Remake Developer Pieces Interactive Shut Down

Published

The current precariousness of the video games industry took another hit today. Weeks after Embracer Group revealed that Pieces Interactive’s remake of Alone in the Dark had “performed below management expectations”, it’s now being reported that the developer has been shut down by Embracer Group. Pieces Interactive had posted to the main page of their website and on the studio’s social media accounts the caption “Pieces Interactive: 2007–2024. Thanks for playing with us.”

Per Game Developer, former Pieces Interactive character artist Gustav Pethrus confirmed via LinkedIn that the company was indeed closing.

The closure of Pieces Interactive follows the layoffs done earlier in the year at the developer by Embracer Group, which was part of a major restructuring by the company. Borderlands developer Gearbox Interactive and Evil Dead: The Game developer Saber Interactive had been sold off back in March, while Eidos Montreal (which Embracer had acquired back in May 2022) had its in-development Deus Ex game cancelled.

Prior to the layoffs, the situation for Pieces Interactive had been made more complicated due to the weak commercial response and mixed critical reception to the Alone in the Dark remake. Despite being rough around the edges, we found that the game was still a worthwhile playthrough.

Alone in the Dark is available on PC via Steam, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5.
