Save Humanity Through Extermination in ‘Earl vs. the Mutants’; Demo Available Now [Trailer]

Published

on

Touting their game as Mad Max meeting Vampire Survivors, developer Falling State Inc. recently revealed their demo for Earl vs. the Mutants. Slated for a release later this year on Steam, Earl vs. the Mutants is a twin stick post-apocalyptic top-down survival roguelite where you play as an exterminator on a mission to save humanity from waves of mutants.

Designed for “short bursts of heart-pounding, high-octane action”, Earl vs. the Mutants has a simple premise: in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, mutants have begun spreading across the land. As a result, Edna has turned her pest control business into something far more benefiting of mankind. As the sole employee of Edna’s Pest Control (and winner of 37 consecutive Employee of the Month award), it’s up to Earl to lead the charge against the mutant swarms.

Much like Vampire Survivors, you’ll be roaming the map, mowing down waves of mutants with your vehicle-mounted weapons (along with doing a little Carmageddon-style vehicular slaughtering) and picking up power-ups. You’ll also be working towards unlocking stat-based permanent upgrades, new weapons and more. If you survive long enough, you’ll do battle with bosses to earn their vehicles.

“We’ve been longtime fans of action-roguelites, and lately we’ve gotten into the growing trend of ‘survivorlikes’,” said Colter Haycock, CEO and co-founder of Falling State Inc.. “With Earl vs. the Mutants, we wanted to shake things up by introducing high-speed player movement and encouraging the player to ram into enemies instead of constantly dodging. We think we’ve found the perfect balance, staying true to what we think makes these games fun, and at the same time, putting our own spin on things.”

Endless Mode Available Now in New Update for ‘Life Eater’

Published

on

Fans of Strange Scaffold and publisher Frosty Pop’s apocalyptic Life Eater have another reason to keep coming back to the game, as the much-anticipated Endless Mode is available now. Best of all, it’s a free update!

The new endless mode gives Life Eater players an arena to determine how long they can evade capture while delaying the end of the world. Collect score points called ZEAL by building an airtight procedure around your sacrifices, investigate the lives of countless procedurally generated kidnapping targets, and survive as long as possible in your personal gauntlet of nightmares.

“We’re so excited to expand the playtime of Life Eater with a uniquely dark and intriguing systemic experience,” says Strange Scaffold founder Xalavier Nelson Jr. “You really just terrorize an entire city of people over the span of decades, now, and I can only hope that I don’t come to regret writing that sentence in a press release.”

For those not in the know, Life Eater (check out Aaron’s review here) is a horror fantasy kidnapping simulator where you play as a druid living in suburbia. You serve a dark entity by abducting and sacrificing specific but vaguely described humans every year to stop the apocalypse. Use a unique video editing-inspired interface to discover the intimate lives of your victims, one schedule block at a time. When the time is right, abduct them before authorities find out.

You can snag a copy of Life Eater on Steam.
