New Gameplay Trailer for ‘The Thaumaturge’ Delves Into Combat [Watch]

Published

on

Prior to 11 bit studios and developer Fool’s Theory showcasing their upcoming dark fantasy RPG The Thaumaturge later this morning, they’ve released a new seven-minute gameplay trailer, showcasing the ‘To Dust, You Shall Return’ quest.

Fool’s Theory will be doing a developer commentary and full gameplay walkthrough stream of The Thaumaturge over on the 11 bit studios Twitch channel later today at 5 PM CET / 11 AM ET / 8 AM PT. Meanwhile, the new trailer focuses on protagonist Wiktor Szulski, and his showdown with the Okhrana, the Tzar’s secret police. Kicking off at the Imperial Hotel, Wiktor meets Swietłana, a member of the Tsar’s court desperate to escape the city. From there, the video moves to the London Bar and a shady neighborhood, where Wiktor encounters equally shady characters.

With Wiktor’s thaumaturgy, players can anticipate their enemies’ moves and call upon the unique skills of ethereal beings known as salutors. Drawing inspiration from folk tales, salutors also allow players to sway people to their will—a persuasive edge in tense situations. But remember, every power has its price. As demonstrated in the trailer, as players progress through the quest, they’ll delve deeper into Wiktor’s abilities, leveling him up to become more adept at influencing people, fighting, and exploring his surroundings.

The Thaumaturge is due out for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG on February 20, followed by later releases on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.

We’ll be waiting a little while longer for developer Studio Cut to Bits’ gothic Metroidvania Venture to the Vile. Originally slated to launch on PC via Steam on May 7, the game has now been pushed a couple of weeks to May 22. The PlayStation release of Venture to the Vile is still expected later this year.

In a press release, Venture to the Vile producer Masao Kobayashi explains the decision to delay the release, stating that while Studio Cut to Bits is made up of industry veterans, this is the first time that the team has released a game as indie developers. As such, the team encountered a few hurdles leading up to the original release date.

“We all love Venture to the Vile and want to make sure we are delivering the best possible game we can for our players. For this reason, we have decided to delay our game by two weeks. I’m sorry to those who have been anticipating our game but I assure you it is going to be worth the wait.”

Venture to the Vile centres on the town of Rainybrook, where an unknown darkness is taking over, transforming anything and anyone it touches. Fortunately for you, you seem to be unaffected by this presence. However, your friend Ella is nowhere to be seen. You must brave the horrors and find her.
