Lovecraftian Survival Horror Game ‘Stygian: Outer Gods’ Announced for PC, PlayStation 5 [Teaser]

If you’ve polished off Alone in the Dark, and are looking to get your next Lovecraftian fix, Fulqrum Publishing and Misterial Games’ newly-announced Stygian: Outer Gods aims to fill in nicely. This upcoming first-person Survival Horror title mixes RPG elements with the deep lore and madness that you’ve come to expect with Lovecraftian games.

Set in the universe of 2019’s Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones (also published by Fulqrum Publishing), Outer Gods involves the events preceding the Black Day. You’ll take on the role of a mercenary accompanying the enigmatic girl to the foggy settlement of Kingsport to uncover her family’s dark secret. Unfortunately, you become shipwrecked, and soon encounter the nightmares that have haunted this place for centuries. You must now find your way out while preventing the coming of the ancient Outer Gods, all the while keeping your sanity.

Inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Kingsport holds its fair share of secrets, requiring you to solve puzzles and open new paths. As you might expect, you’ll be in constant danger, either from the monsters lurking in the shadows, or the numerous traps scattered about. Physical damage is one thing, but the mental is another. Mental afflictions will impact gameplay, requiring you to look for materials and recipes and craft the tools, medicines, and remedies necessary to withstand the horrors.

Stygian: Outer Gods will allow you a flexible play style. You’ll unlock new abilities, find eldritch artifacts, and experiment with different ways to interact with the environment. You’ll have plenty of have choices and multiple paths to progress, but you’ll also have to deal with the consequences.

There’s no release date as of yet for Stygian: Outer Gods, which is currently in development for PC via Steam and the PlayStation 5.

We’ll be waiting a little while longer for developer Studio Cut to Bits’ gothic Metroidvania Venture to the Vile. Originally slated to launch on PC via Steam on May 7, the game has now been pushed a couple of weeks to May 22. The PlayStation release of Venture to the Vile is still expected later this year.

In a press release, Venture to the Vile producer Masao Kobayashi explains the decision to delay the release, stating that while Studio Cut to Bits is made up of industry veterans, this is the first time that the team has released a game as indie developers. As such, the team encountered a few hurdles leading up to the original release date.

“We all love Venture to the Vile and want to make sure we are delivering the best possible game we can for our players. For this reason, we have decided to delay our game by two weeks. I’m sorry to those who have been anticipating our game but I assure you it is going to be worth the wait.”

Venture to the Vile centres on the town of Rainybrook, where an unknown darkness is taking over, transforming anything and anyone it touches. Fortunately for you, you seem to be unaffected by this presence. However, your friend Ella is nowhere to be seen. You must brave the horrors and find her.
