Throwback Adventure Title ‘An English Haunting’ Out Now on Steam & itch.io [Trailer]

Published

Old-school point-and-click adventure gamers can rejoice, as Postmodern Adventures’ throwback tribute to the genre with An English Haunting is out now on Steam and itch.io. In fact, you can grab it with a time-limited 10% discount until June 5. And for those on the fence, there’s also a demo available on Steam.

From the creator of the award-winning Nightmare Frames and Urban Witch Story, and inspired by the works of horror authors M.R. James, Algernon Blackwood, and Arthur MachenAn English Haunting takes place in 1907 London, where spiritualism has gripped the populace. Séances and theatrical shows where spirits make contact with their living families are all the rage, and there are a legion of investigators trying to discover the secrets of the supernatural. Professor Patrick Moore is one such investigator, who unfortunately has a bit of a problem: he’s got 72 hours to prove the existence of the Great Beyond, or else his Metapsychic Investigations Department will be shut down forever.

Racing against the clock, with the help of a fake medium named Beatrice Shaw, he must complete a prototype of the Box of Revelations, an artefact devised by his missing mentor that enables seeing dimensions hidden in our reality. Building this device will take him from the foggy streets of London to the steep shores of Scotland, and finally to 31 Benwell Street, known as the most haunted manor of England.

After blowing fans away last week with the announcement of The Thing: Remastered, Nightdive Studio has taken the opportunity to launch a bi-weekly podcast called “Deep Dive” that delves into the development team and its work on remastering beloved titles. Along with some of Nightdive’s more recent releases, the first episode naturally focuses on The Thing: Remastered.

Hosted by Dimitris Giannakis (aka the Modern Vintage Gamer) with co-hosts Morgan Shaver (Nightdive’s Comms Manager) and Locke Vincent (Nightdive’s Video Producer), the first episode of Deep Dive sees the trio chat with development team working on The Thing: Remastered, and even reaches back even further and chats with Mark Atkinson, one of the original directors and programmers of Computer Artworks’ 2002 The Thing.

The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the cult-classic 2002 third-person survival horror shooter game inspired by Universal Pictures’ genre-defining 1982 film by John Carpenter. Nightdive Studios has upgraded this classic for the modern era through its proprietary KEX Engine for play on current-generation gaming devices up to a 4K resolution at 120FPS. Improvements to character models, textures, and animations have been hand-crafted by Nightdive Studios, with the implementation of advanced 3D rendering for updated lighting and atmospheric effects.

The Thing: Remastered arrives later this year on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
