DreadXP Brings Grindhouse-Inspired Title ‘The Lacerator’ in 2025 [Trailer]

Published

on

After giving fans a tease last year during HauntedPS1’s ‘EEK3 2023’ event, Fernando Tittz and Games From The Abyss have teamed up with DreadXP to bring The Lacerator to Steam next year. A demo is currently available for the game, which combines the trashy comedy and low-brow style of 70s and 80s Grindhouse films.

The story centres on Max, a famous porn actor and best to ever do it. During the latest recording session with his crew, things get interesting when everyone is attacked and abducted by a psychotic killer known as The Lacerator. Now inside a filthy hideout, Max must do whatever it takes to escape alive and in one piece. Unfortunately for Max, that probably won’t happen, since The Lacerator has a thing for, well, lacerating his victims.

There are multiple main escape routes, but depending on your remaining limbs, you lose access to some of these paths. Each of these present a different narrative branch that will provide answers not available in the others. Do you dare go back and put the big picture together?

The Lacerator is a tense survival horror game that pays homage to horror genre classics with retro-inspired low poly visuals and tank controls. As mentioned, you’ll have to navigate branching paths, fight enemies and solve puzzles in order to progress in your mission to escape. But beware of The Lacerator and his many traps, you can lose a limb in real time, drastically changing your options for gameplay. Exploration will be crucial for survival, as will fighting. Sometimes you can run away from your foes, but things will often be easier if you can manage to take them down.

If you’re keen on finding out more about The Lacerator, DreadXP will be exhibiting the game as part of their lineup at PAX West 2024, which takes place from August 30 to September 2 in Seattle, Washington.

During the Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition, publisher Wired Productions and developer LKA released a three-minute developer presentation for psychological horror game When Sirens Fall Silent, offering players a deeper look into the mystery, characters, and unsettling world of the upcoming psychological thriller.

Following two creative story-based cinematic reveals (which you can watch here and here) that introduced the game’s atmosphere, themes, and central mystery, LKA Founder and Director Luca Dalcò guides viewers further into the world of the forgotten people, revealing more of what awaits players as they uncover the truth behind a series of kidnappings and murders.

From the creators of Martha is Dead, When Sirens Fall Silent casts players as Mila, a policewoman in early 1990s Rome, Italy. Haunted by a past she’s desperate to escape, Mila is thrust into a high-profile case of kidnappings and murders. As the investigation unravels, you must not only save her from herself, but also from being consumed by the violence, mystery and confusion.

Featuring a branching, multi-layered narrative dialogue system, with a huge focus on verbal and emotional interaction, investigation and subsequent choices, players will be faced with difficult real-world topics. LKA aims to “pull no punches” with its story, but also hints at a few surprises along the way.

When Sirens Fall Silent is currently in development for PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
