What do you get when you combine the atmospheric horror of the Aliens franchise with the combat and exploration of Super Metroid? Indie developer Gloomsoft looks to have the answer with their debut dark sci-fi metroidvania Moadra, which comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Steam later this year.

Players will set out on a deadly mission to explore the mysterious planet of Protea VI and uncover what happened to a once-thriving civilization as Lieutenant Moadra Meras, a member of the Neera elites. If you make it through Protea VI’s coarse sand and freezing ice, you’ll be delving into lush underground caverns brimming with secrets.

Use Moadra’s agility to your advantage to roll, dodge, leap, wall jump, and sprint at blinding speeds to evade deadly organisms and hazardous elements. Use your swift reflexes, an arsenal of weapons, and special abilities to survive everything from low-level threats to gargantuan monsters that force you to use every tool at your disposal. That includes the use of your scanner bot and X-ray vision to examine creatures, reveal hidden paths, and discover secret areas.

If that’s not enough Metroid for you, Moadra takes it further, where destroying hostile creatures and organisms allows you to absorb their Protoplasm. Consume it inside organic chambers to apply metamorphosis, and evolve your abilities and weapons to new levels.
