Supernatural Tactical Extraction Shooter ‘Nightmare Frontier’ Comes to Steam This Summer [Trailer]
Fans of XCOM and Hunt: Showdown 1896 will have a new treat later this year with Ice Code Games’ Nightmare Frontier. Part tactical turn-based strategy game, part extraction looter, Nightmare Frontier will even be throwing in “a dash of Cthulhu” to its gameplay. The game will hit Early Access on Steam in Q2 2025.
Taking place in an alternative 1900s, you and your band of scavengers venture into to reclaim a devastated former boom town. Standing in your way are the Dreadweavers, monsters born from your team’s darkest fears. As a result, you’ll need to overcome your dread and make these monsters eat lead.
As mentioned, Nightmare Frontiers makes use of XCOM-style tactics, where you’ll be using trick shots to push monsters back, while countering and combining attacks. As you push forward, you’ll also be increasing what’s referred to as the Nightmare Level that increases the danger for you and your team. Pushing your luck and the danger will maximizing the amount and quality of loot you can grab from the game’s limitless raids, so plan accordingly.
In addition, you’ll also be harvesting materials from defeated nightmares to craft and enhance your weapons, which melds early 1900s technology with supernatural alchemy. You’ll also be investing in upgrades and abilities for your crew, and even bringing on some rescued souls into the group. Just know that their weaknesses will be exploited by the Dreadweavers.
Path Games provided an update for its in-development underwater haunted house title Dark Mass, revealing that the game will receive a physical release for PlayStation 5 as both a Standard Edition and a Collector’s Edition. The reveal also coincides with a new trailer that delves into the gameplay.
Dark Mass sees players take on the role of Alice, a deep-sea explorer who, alongside her brother Reed, stumbles upon the wreckage of an ancient ship. But beneath the ship lies they discover a manor lost to time, eerily untouched despite spending centuries in the ocean.
Alice decides to venture inside, but she soon realises that something is watching from the darkness, bound to the manor by a dark curse. Trapped within the manor’s decaying halls, Alice must now uncover the manor’s tragic past, solve puzzles based on real historical torture rituals, and make decisions that will ultimately define her fate.
Both the Standard Edition and Collector’s Edition will be published by SelectaPlay, with the Collector’s Edition having been designed “for horror fans and collectors,” bringing together a selection of physical items inspired by Alice’s journey, the mystery of the sunken manor and the unsettling atmosphere of the abyss.
The Standard Edition includes a physical copy of the game, along with an illustrated manual. Meanwhile, the Collector’s Edition includes the physical copy and manual, along with the following:

- Official Art Book
- Lenticular postcard
- Alice’s turtle bracelet
- Original Soundtrack in Digipack format
- Exclusive Steelbook
In addition to the PlayStation 5, Dark Mass will be coming to the Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The game is currently aiming for a fall 2026 release.
