Retro Mode Coming to ‘Beneath’ Next Month; Postlaunch Roadmap Revealed [Teaser]
With Wired Productions and developer Camel 101’s Lovecraftian FPS Beneath now out in the wild, the devteam has gotten to work on the postlaunch content, starting with a Retro Mode that’s due to arrive on December 18th. Accompanying the announcement is a teaser trailer highlighting what this new mode entails for players.
Bringing players bleeding edge 1998 visuals, Retro Mode combines some adjusted visual presentation and filter techniques to bring back that feeling you had as a kid where you sat in front of your parents’ TV at midnight playing video games. Per the devs, the mode adds a “distinct charm” to the game’s nightmare-filled research station.
That’s not the only throwback content for Beneath players, as Camel 101 plans on including a Cheat Mode that offers understandably game-breaking additions (God Mode and Infinite Ammo, for starters). The team’s not quite sure how they want to implement the mode, be it entering a code or finding collectibles to unlock them in a menu. You can chime in your thoughts via the official Discord channel.
Along with Cheat Mode, Beneath will also be getting a New Game + that again, the team is still determining how to implement it, and what it’ll look like. Starting out armed to the teeth doesn’t exactly conjure fear, after all.
Lastly, the devteam is also looking at adding a Horde Mode to Beneath, which will be based on segmented areas of the facilities. No story required, just you and your guns, some powerups and endless waves of eldritch horrors for you to mow down.
Beneath is available now PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG.com, as well as PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.
