‘Resident Evil 4’ Remake Originally Had Content Featuring Ashley [Video]

Published

on

Modders have once again been poking around in Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 4, and this time have uncovered data for an introductory “Chapter 0” that would have featured Ashley Graham as a playable character. Although the level was never completed and ended up on the cutting room floor prior to the game’s release, modder Thekempy found what remained of the level, restored it and recorded their playthrough.

Designed as a short prologue, Chapter 0 was intended to show Ashley’s arrival in the village. Rather than focusing on action, the chapter would have seen Ashley wandering the woods at night before running into Los Illuminados members performing a sacrifice. You can actually see part of this sacrifice in the October 2022 story trailer.

The path that Ashley travels before coming upon the sacrifice still exists in the game, but is only accessible if you have modding tools to move the camera. After witnessing the sacrifice, it would appear that Ashley would run and stumble into the village.

According to Thekempy, missing parts of the level include various spawn points for Ganados wandering the path that would require Ashley to sneak past them in order to proceed, as well as trigger points, such as one where the player must crawl under a boarded area. Eventually, Ashley would be spotted and chased by Ganados before being captured. Once again, glimpses of the cutscene where Ashley would be caught and taken to the church can be seen in the June 2022 State of Play announcement trailer.

Ninja Theory had its own surprise at the Xbox Games Showcase, announcing that a third entry in the Hellblade series is in development, and unlike the previous entry, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, you won’t have to wait five years to play. Simply titled Senua, the game will launch in 2027 for will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store.

Taking place after the events of Hellblade and Hellblade II, Senua is set in a fractured vision of purgatory, where a Celtic warrior (which is Senua) must fight to reach the afterlife and reunite with those she has loved and lost. Story details are purposely being kept under wraps for now, but players can expect to confront threats both within and without, master tactical combat to overcome nightmarish creatures, and explore a fantastical world shaped by myth and memory.

“It was important for us in developing Senua that we make a game Hellblade fans will love, but for it to be a game for new players, too,” explains Ninja Theory in a post to Steam. “If you’re a fan of story-led, premium action-adventure games with visceral combat, vivid worlds and fantastical enemies (including boss fights!), there’s a lot to be excited about in Senua.”
