After over a decade, Konami has finally returned to the Castlevania series proper in a brand new 2D action title, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse! Coming later this year to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, the Nintendo Switch and PC, the game marks the series 40th anniversary later this year, and is being co-developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin.
Medieval Paris, where the tolling bells herald the end. 1499, Paris is engulfed in flames as monstrous creatures suddenly emerge from the shadows. Armed with the legendary holy whip, the Vampire Killer, Trevor Belmont’s successor ventures into the burning streets and the looming castle to hunt down the beasts.
As expected, the iconic whip of the series is back, now more important than ever! Taking a cue from Super Castlevania IV, players can use their whip to move around freely. Master the whip mechanics and be creative to pounce on your foes in fast-paced combats!
The whip is not the only tool at your disposal. You will need to strategically plan your next move in combat and make full use of all the weapons and abilities to stand a chance! Dracula’s castle is expectedly packed with secrets, traps and puzzles.
Expanding further the series-classic gothic style, this Belmont’s Curse sports a unique colorful art style will let you discover the world of Castlevania like never before. True to the roots of the series, you will encounter colorful characters and powerful foes, stumble upon many secret chambers, dig up numerous hidden items, and whip your way through challenging areas.
And as one would hope, Konami mentioned on their official site that seeing as Castlevania turns 40 this year, fans can look forward to “numerous new products” centered around the franchise.
