Campy Horror Platformer ‘Strange Brew’ Has You Running from Zombies as a Coffee Mascot [Trailer]

Not to be confused with a certain 1983 comedy film, those in the mood for some campy horror in their gaming can check out Electric Monk Media’s cinematic 3D action-platformer, Strange Brew. Available now on Steam (with a 10% launch discount as an incentive), the game is packed with intense, zombie-movie-style chases, along with a generous helping of absurdity. You also play as a duck mascot.

Set in the ruins of a company-owned town, Strange Brew tells the story of a catastrophic MoonDucks Coffee experiment gone horribly wrong. A contaminated pumpkin spice latte has transformed those who drink it into ravenous zombies, leaving Joe, the aforementioned mascot, to navigate the fallout using speed, timing, and whatever environmental chaos he can turn to his advantage.

From crackling power lines to collapsing streets and runaway industrial machinery, survival depends on quick thinking and creative momentum. Blending cinematic camera work with fast-paced 3D platforming, Strange Brew features relentless chase sequences to go along with its outrageous horror spectacle. Players will have Joe dash through strobe-lit warehouses, cling to life atop speeding transit systems, and improvise escapes as entire city blocks descend into disaster. As the tension escalates on every level, you’ll need to keep moving, no matter how dire things become.

And seeing as there are zombies involved, as a tribute to classic zombie cinema (and because there just wasn’t enough ridiculousness), Strange Brew also features an unlockable black-and-white “1968 Living Dead Mode.” Sporting grainy visuals, stark lighting, and a vintage flair gives players an alternate way to experience the apocalypse.
