Back in 2024, it was reported that Sony-owned Firesprite had cancelled a live service Twisted Metal title. It now appears that wasn’t the only title that got the ax, as Firesprite was also developing a Dead Space-esque title that sadly never saw past the prototype phase.
Per MP1st, Firesprite (which had also developed the horror title The Persistence) the project was a new IP in the sci-fi horror genre, which was in development between 2018 and 2020, but it never made it past the prototype stage. This project’s existence was revealed via the portfolio of a former Firesprite artist, who had done several pieces of concept art. Given the body horror and the dark sci-fi setting of the art, this project was aimed squarely at fans of Dead Space.
Adding more intrigue was the fact that Firesprite had posted a job listing for a new horror title back in 2022 that was to utilize the Unreal Engine 5. That title, codenamed Project Heartbreak, was rumored to have been a sequel to Supermassive’s Until Dawn.
If that wasn’t enough “What if?” for you, according to the developer’s March 2025 financial statements (courtesy of the British Companies House registry, and spotted by X user Timur222), Firesprite had additional projects in the works that unfortunately were also cancelled, though details on those projects weren’t made available.
