Mashing up Alice: Madness Returns with Control and Hades, Purple Ray Studio has revealed Koshmar: The Last Reverie, a fast-paced, third-person single-player action-adventure set in a gothic-inspired realm of dreams and nightmares. Launching on Steam, The Last Reverie is set in a gothic-inspired realm of dreams and nightmares that features both roguelite mechanics and RPG elements.
Players assume the role of Violet, a teenager in a bleak, colourless world. Raised among cadavers, feared by the living, and ignored by her father, Violet has only one place of warmth: the dream world she shares with her best friend. But when a mysterious sleeping plague takes everything away, Violet is forced to venture where no one dares: other people’s nightmares.
Koshmar: The Last Reverie ultilizes a unique mechanic, where how the player progresses through Violet’s physical world, will have impacts on how she perceives, and is perceived by the world in return. For example, utilizing Dream or Nightmare weapon styles will unlock resources that amplify dream-like delusions, or invite maddening mentality when Violet returns to the real world. Depending on how deeply she dives into these “Delusion” or “Madness” states affects her appearance, and how the world presents to her. As well, combat weapons and abilities are unlocked depending on your playstyle.
Scattered across the city are nightmare rifts – gateways into the dreams of Radwan’s sleeping. Enter them, fight through what lurks within, seal them to wake the person up. Every closed rift yields rewards that allow you to craft items, preparing VIolet for the next rift. Some rifts are procedurally generated to ensure that every dive into personal nightmares is distinct.
