More lo-fi horror gaming is headed your way with Mayfly, the debut game from Backyard Zoo. Coming to Steam Q3 2026, you can already check out the game via the demo that’s now available. Described as a “quiet horror” title, Mayfly sees you aboard a narrowboat in Northern England, where you descend into an increasingly twisted reality.
The premise sees players take on the role of Caroline Miller (voiced by singer-songwriter Tammy King) as she searches for her missing husband, Robert. Focused on exploration, story and atmosphere, Caroline boards the eponymous ship Mayfly, where she soon ends up in a collapsing reality, and the accompanying slow descent into an unfamiliar world.
Players will solve puzzles aboard a detailed, highly explorable narrowboat while uncovering clues and memories as the environment around you shifts in unsettling ways. This is complimented by the game’s lo-fi visuals and “deliciously unnerving” atmospheric soundtrack and immersive 3D audio.
Mayfly is described as having a short playtime, with the demo itself taking around 10-15 minutes to complete, where players complete an “end-to-end experience” of the first scene of the game.
