Asobo Studio: ‘Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy’ Release is “Almost Here”

Published

on

Ever since Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy was first revealed a year ago during Summer Game Fest, Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment have been mum on the follow-up to 2022’s A Plague Tale: Requiem. That’s all changed now with the devteam having recently dropped a new devlog which sheds more info on the prequel, including hints of its impending release.

“It’s been a year since we revealed Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and four since A Plague Tale: Requiem’s release,” reads the statement from the studio. “In the quiet of Asobo Studio’s office, our team wondered how the A Plague Tale universe would live on. Now, the release is almost here. Soon, you’ll face countless dangers alongside Sophia and her sidekicks.”

Resonance, which is set 15 years earlier before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem, sees players step into the boots of Sophia, a fierce young plunderer who briefly appeared in Requiem, who is on the run but determined to uncover the secrets of her past.

“Sophia is a renowned plunderer and smuggler, nicknamed ‘The Scorpion of the Seas’… What strikes you about Sophia is this raw strength that she radiates. She’s relentless, in complete control of her emotions, and rarely shows vulnerability. You immediately sense she’s survived something terrible. And yet, she’s capable of unwavering loyalty toward those she chooses to protect.

We knew that such a straightforward, determined character isn’t built without fractures. So, we explored abandonment, grief, and collapsing pillars. These themes felt essential for a character her age, evolving in such a violent environment. Requiem gave us little information: Sophia had been placed in a convent by her mother’s family, she’d escaped, she’d found her father again. Having such little info about her was both an enormous constraint and immense freedom.”

The rest of the devlog delves further into Sophia’s character, including some character concept art. The devlog also hints at two additional devlogs: an interview with Sophia’s actor Anna Demetriou, and a blog titled ‘Into the Myth’.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is currently in development for the Xbox Series, Day One with Xbox Game Pass, as well as PlayStation 5 and Steam.

The House of The Dead fans have a new rail shooter to dive into with Alex Rassloff‘s MEATHOOK, which will be launching on Steam on July 21. If you can’t wait that long, you can check out the demo, which features seven of the game’s 10 levels.

This survival horror FPS sees you being captured by a mysterious cult, which has killed your partner and suspended you from a conveyor mechanism like a piece of meat. Making matter worse, you’re now forced to partake in a collection of ritualistic challenges, collecting weapons and cleansing the tunnels of cultists that are looking to carve you up.

Sporting throwback PS1-style graphics and gore, MEATHOOK also features a tactile physics-driven weapon system as well as a unique manual reload feature. You navigate the small interconnected levels by selecting markers to move along the conveyor that takes you throughout the levels. You’ll be stocking up on resources such as food, ammo, keys and guns.
