While Frictional Games is busy with their upcoming sci-fi thriller ONTOS, it seems that they’re also in the process of remastering their 2010 survival horror hit Amnesia: The Dark Descent. No official announcement has been made as of yet, but according to Frictional Games’ 2025 annual report, the developer is in the process of gearing up for a release later this year.
Per a recent post on the r/Amnesia Reddit, the report outlines the developer’s current and future projects. While much of the report focused on ONTOS, user CarlZzZoneNnn spotted a line that stated that Frictional was planning on releasing a new version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent “at the end of 2026”. Outside of that one sentence, the report does not reveal what changes or enhancements the remaster will include, nor does it reveal any platforms.
Elsewhere, the report states that a smaller team is currently in pre-production on the developer’s next major project, though much like the Amnesia remaster, this project has not been announced yet, nor does it have a release date.
This all comes after news last month that ONTOS would be pushed to a 2027 release date after originally being scheduled for release this year. At the time, the team stated that they would be sharing more updates about the game, including its world and characters, “soon”.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent was originally released for PC via Steam and GOG, before heading to the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.
