Fans of dungeon crawlers have another title on the way, courtesy of the team behind dystopian horror game Execute. Launching on Steam in 2027, Medium Rare is a turn-based survival dungeon crawler where cannibalism is the only growth industry left.
Yes, cannibalism has been industrialized. As the world’s resources run dry, the world has turned to human meat consumption as a way of survival. Unfortunately, your wife is taken to ExeCo, the world’s most renowned human meat processing plant, somewhere up the mountain. As a result, you must hike your way to the top of the mountain to save her, dealing not only with cannibals, but also the Infected, and mutant animals that roam the area.
Players will move floor to floor through a grid-based map, making tactical resource management decisions, as you decide when to push forward, and when to extract back to base. Seeing as this is survival, every bullet matters. Combat is dice-based, and weapons synergize to make intuitive combos that could help you save resources. You’ll of course need to manage your inventory, Tetris style. Decide what’s worth carrying, and what gets left behind.
The only place on the mountain that offers you respite is your camp, where you can retreat after dragging parts home in order to upgrade your tools and your skills. Once you reach the end of a floor, you can choose to extract and keep your haul to bring back to base, or you can choose to gamble it for a richer prize.
