Konami Aims to Make “Annual Release” of New ‘Silent Hill’ Games

Konami has reiterated their plans to annually release new Silent Hill entries. Speaking with Gamesradar at Gamescom, franchise producer Motoi Okamoto stated that the publisher’s hope is to have yearly titles in the series, and also to expand beyond the series’ staple of the town itself.

“If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase,” says Okamoto, who wants the devteam working on a Silent Hill game to mold the IP to their ideas. The result would allow the developers to “work within the types of environments and the types of storytelling that works best for them.”

And yes, in keeping with the idea of yearly titles, Okamoto states that Konami already has a couple Silent Hill titles in the works, and not just Bloober Team’s upcoming remake of the one that started it all. “There are still many projects that are still under the works and very unannounced titles,” he said. “So obviously, we can’t go into specifics. But there are still many projects that we are currently exploring and working on as we speak.”

“We would like to let players know,” Okamoto continues, “that we have more experiences coming up, and many types of games that, we believe, will be able to provide positive kinds of surprises for players waiting for this for the series.”

The next entry in the series, Silent Hill: Townfall, is right around the corner, launching September 25 for PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
