With the Metroid series celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, it was obvious that Nintendo wouldn’t let it pass without some sort of surprise. That surprise is a new entry in Metroid Ravenous. Developed by Metroid Dread developer MercurySteam, the sixth 2D entry in the series will arrive next year on January 28 for the Switch 2.
In addition to the reveal, there will be a Metroid Ravenous amiibo collection, consisting of individual Samus and Chozo Statue figures, which will arrive on the same day as Ravenous. A third amiibo, Samus (Metroid Suit), will be bundled with a Special Edition of the game that also includes a SteelBook case.
Metroid Ravenous seemingly continues where the previous entry in the series, Metroid Dread, left off. Series protagonist Samus is ambushed by unknown attackers and marooned on an unfamiliar moon. As a result, Samus must navigate the subterranean maze of corridors in order to escape. As one would expect, you’ll encounter powerful bosses and various upgrades for Samus. This time around, you’ll be making use of Samus’ newly awakened Metroid ability that allows her to feed on her foes.
