If you’re in the mood for some retro PS1 horror gaming, developer Visuwyg and Hyperstrange have announced the playtest for their upcoming title, DERELIKT. You can head on over to the game’s Steam page, click the button to request access, and get ready to experience this retro FPS inspired by Alien Resurrection, Doom 3 and System Shock 2. With a dash of Lovecraftian cosmic horror to top it all off.
Running until September 24, the playtest gives players access to a few selected sections of the game. You’ll start off at Von Neumann Outpost. Walk its calm, quiet corridors before all cosmic hell breaks loose. Explore the facility, gear up, meet the crew, and catch an early glimpse of whatever is already creeping through their minds.
From there, you’ll enter into Exo Labs to field-test some of the weapons, and learn what works best against each twisted horror. Lastly, you’ll get to play a section of one more level, though the devteam is keeping the surprise secret for you to find out.
In DERELIKT, you’ll explore the Von Neuman Outpost, an expansive research station grafted onto an anomalous derelict asteroid in orbit around Saturn. However, as these things go, the hallways have gone dark, the systems are failing, and the few survivors left aren’t telling the same story.
Featuring a faithful and beautiful recreation of PS1 aesthetics, right down to the texture warping, you’ll interact with over a dozen NPCs in a robust dialogue system. You’ll also be encountering old-school puzzles in the style of survival horror classics, along with an array of unspeakable horrors. Luckily, you’ve got an array of classic and outlandish weapons to defend yourself. But remember, you’ve got to juggle inventory space to manage your ammo, items and health. Not to mention that every shot has a cost.
