Mega Cat Studios Releases New Dev Vlog for ‘Zombies Ate My Neighbors’ Send-up ‘Lethal Wedding’ [Watch]
Mega Cat Studios has dropped a new developer vlog for their upcoming Zombies Ate My Neighbors tribute title in Lethal Wedding, which had its Kickstarter launch earlier this month, has already surpassed its initial goal by 150%.
The new 20+ minute vlog features has the Mega Cat Studios team spilling its guts, exploring the game’s origins, inspirations, art direction, and audio design. The developers also discuss how classic action films of the 1980s and 1990s influenced the game’s over-the-top action, how the cult LucasArts classic SNES and Genesis shooter Zombies Ate My Neighbors helped shape its chaotic co-op gameplay, and the technical tricks used to push Genesis hardware to its limits.
The vlog also takes viewers behind the scenes of the game’s audio production, including collaboration with Team Fat, the legendary composers behind Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and dives into the deceptively intricate challenge of creating the perfect video game shotgun.
Coming to Steam in addition to Sega Genesis / Mega Drive, Lethal Wedding sees a drug ring of criminal clowns crash a bachelor party and kidnap the groom-to-be. It’s up to the bride and her mother-in-law to mount a rescue. Players will battle their way through psychopathic circus performers, bazooka-toting bearded ladies, and murderous mobsters across 30+ levels.
In addition to couch co-op, Lethal Wedding features what’s called the Vow System, which keeps the stakes high by challenging players to complete randomized objectives before reaching the end of each stage. Before entering any levels, you can pick optional challenges to unlock special rewards. For example, if you want elite upgrades like Speed Reload, you’ll have to “vow” to face enemies with bonus damage and increased movement speed.
