I was one of those kids who loved RPGs when I was growing up. If you gave me Dragon Warrior, Secret Of Mana, or Lunar The Silver Star, I would happily shut up for several hours and just become immersed in the game. And Chrono Trigger was no exception to that rule. Featuring endless hours of entertainment and multiple endings (most of which I never got) the game was something really special.
But what stuck out the most for me was the music, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. While the SNES was limited in many ways, I never felt like the music was an area that lacked. Sure, many of the sounds and tones were primitive by today’s standards but there was a certain charm to the music, a specific kind of beauty that lingers to this day.
That’s why I’m sharing this video of YouTube user Smooth McGroove and his a cappella cover of Chrono Trigger‘s “Main Theme”. He flat out nails it, giving a really great rendition of the emotional, exciting theme. Give it a watch!
