[Fantasia ’15] ‘The Signal’ Director’s ‘Synchronicity’ to World Premiere
POPfilms and Soapbox Films have sent stills and the trailer for director Jacob Gentry’s latest film, Synchronicity, which will have its World Premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival 2015 on July 22nd at 7:15PM at J.A. DeSève Cinema. The film stars Chad McKnight (The West Wing, Last Goodbye), AJ Bowen (The Signal, A Horrible Way To Die, You’re Next), Brianne Davis (Jarhead, Prom Night), and Michael Ironside (Top Gun, Total Recall).
“Synchronicity follows the story of a daring physicist who folds time to travel into the past, trying to stop a mysterious woman from stealing his invention. But once there, he gets caught in a love triangle that will fracture his reality and endanger his entire future.“
Synchronicity is Gentry’s third feature film and his fourth collaboration with lead actor Chad McKnight. His filmography includes The Signal, which was acquired by Magnolia Pictures after it premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award, along with the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 trilogy, Last Goodbye and After the Disco.
With Synchronicity, Gentry wanted to draw inspiration from the gritty cyberpunk textures and analog synth sounds of sci-fi movies from the 70s and 80s, as well as the harsh shadows and smokey glamour of post-war crime dramas in order to create a retro-futuristic world that the audience could climb into and walk around inside of. He wanted the audience to experience an atmospheric playground where the mysteries of the universe can be explored in the dark unknown of time and space.
Synchronicity is produced by Alexander Motlagh known for The Signal and MTV’s breakout series “Finding Carter,” and Christopher Alender founder of Soapbox Films.

Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.
Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.
“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”
Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.
From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
