It’s no secret that Halloween is one of the most influential slashers of the last four decades. The number of films that look up to John Carpenter’s low-budget box office sensation is uncountable, its stark style and eerie music setting a precedent for many films that followed.
Still, even with its popularity, it still amazes me that so many people keep coming back to it as the foundation of their creative endeavors, not that that’s a bad thing. For example, let’s talk about TOWER 10 Productions and their short film Halloween: The Rebirth of Michael Myers. Using lines and sound clips from the original movie, the short film tells the story of Jamie, a young woman who is asked to babysit on Halloween night. Much like in the original film, Michael Myers doesn’t necessarily approve of this.
What I liked about this short film is that it’s pretty brutal. I won’t go into details but some implicated deaths are rather eyebrow raising. Additionally, there’s a great use of color. It’s not flawless, but I enjoyed this short and think it’s worth sharing with all of you.
