We’ve got a very fun clip from Takashi Miike’s latest horror film Over Your Dead Body, which will be hitting Blu-ray and DVD on January 5th via Scream Factory. The clip shows Ichikawa Ebizō XI pulling up to a construction site where he wants to rest for a few moments. Unfortunately, there’s a ghost who is intent on scaring the absolute shit out of him, up to and including some rather permanent damage. Or does it?
One of the great things that I love about this clip is that it actually shows the ghost disappearing into thin air. How many times have we watched a supernatural horror film and a person looks at a ghost, looks away (with the camera cutting away too), and when they look back the ghost is gone? I always wanted to know what happened during that cut and Takashi Miike showed me exactly that! If for nothing else, I thank him for this!
“Taking its cue from the art of Kabuki, the terrifying tale unfolds within the walls of a theatre where a troupe of players are in rehearsals for a production of Yotsuya Kaidan, a 200-year-old tale of murder, betrayal, and phantasmagorical vengeance — and where life comes to imitate art in ultimately shocking ways.”
