Welcome to Springwood, bitch!
The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise of course takes place in the town of Springwood, Ohio, which isn’t actually a real place you can visit. But while you may not be able to take a road trip to Springwood, you can find the original film’s iconic locations in the state of California. Yes, California played the role of Ohio in Wes Craven’s 1984 classic, and that’s just movie magic for ya.
Don’t live close enough to California to pay those locales a visit? Have no fear, because the folks over on Joblo just tackled A Nightmare on Elm Street in the latest installment of their “Where It Was Made” series. Directed by Ryan Cultrera, the video tours nearly all of the main locations, including Springwood High School, Freddy’s boiler room, and of course, 1428 Elm Street.
Coolest of all, the 11-minute video includes commentary-style insight from Heather Langenkamp herself, who of course played franchise heroine Nancy Thompson. She shares memories from the set and also drops little tidbits of info that you might not have known. For example, did you know that the boiler room location was also seen in Wes Craven’s Shocker?!
