This coming Sunday marks the 35th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s visionary Blade Runner, released into theaters in the summer of 1982. I suppose you could say it’s rather fitting that Denis Villeneuve’s years-later sequel, titled Blade Runner 2049, is arriving on the big screen in just a few months; ahead of the release, a new featurette has arrived to tease the continuation of one of the most iconic sci-fi worlds we’ve ever traveled to.
Scott, Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford talk about blending the iconic and the new in the featurette, with Gosling promising that this year’s film is a “grounded, realistic extension” of the original classic. Along with their insights and behind the scenes footage, the featurette is also packed with new footage that is absolutely stunning.
In Blade Runner 2049…
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
The cast also includes Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Sylvia Hoeks, and Barkhad Abdi.
Hampton Fancher and Michael Green wrote the script.
Blade Runner 2049 arrives on October 6, 2017.
