Behind the Scenes Footage Shows Unused ‘Shin Godzilla’ Puppet

In less than a month, Shin Godzilla finally comes Stateside.

From what I gather, Big G was computer-generated every time he was seen on screen in Shin Godzilla, but you may recall that a practical effects puppet was at one point teased. It seems the massive puppet just didn’t work as hoped, but holy shit was it cool.

The puppet is on full display in this behind the scenes video from the Japanese Blu-ray, which highlights the film’s complex practical effects. Find it below.

The iconic science fiction monster Godzilla stomps to home video here in the States when Shin Godzilla (read our review) hits as a BD/DVD Combo + UV exclusively on the Funimation website on August 1, 2017. Extras are disappointing here, however, as they include trailers and the interview “Godzilla vs. the Nerds”.

Co-directed by Hideaki Anno (creator of “Evangelion”) and Shinji Higuchi (director of Toho’s 2015 “Attack on Titan” live action movies), Shin Godzilla is the 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho and represents a brand new chapter in the 62-year history of this celebrated movie monster. The film stars Hiroki Hasegawa and Satomi Ishihara – both also from the “Attack on Titan” live action movies – as well as Yutaka Takenouchi.

In Shin Godzilla (Godzilla Resurgence), “An unknown accident occurs in Tokyo Bay’s Aqua Line, which causes an emergency cabinet to assemble. All of the sudden, a giant creature immediately appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. This mysterious giant monster is named “Godzilla”.
