“You knew you were in the hands of a master… nothing you could do but submit.”
Alexandre Philippe’s documentary 78/52, which takes an in-depth look at the 78 setups and 52 cuts that forever changed cinema in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, is now available on all digital platforms here in the States. But ahead of the UK release on November 3, a new clip featuring Guillermo del Toro has been unleashed.
The doc, focused on Psycho‘s infamous shower scene, “explores the scene from multiple angles, focusing on its complicated technical aspects and its huge impact on the culture and the future of movies.”
Philippe promises, “If Psycho changed the way people shower, it’s safe to say that after watching 78/52, you will never look at the shower scene the same way again.”
78/52 features a lengthy list of interviewees, also including Peter Bogdanovich, Elijah Wood, Bret Easton Ellis, Neil Marshall, Danny Elfman, Karyn Kusama, Apocalypse Now editor Walter Murch, Janet Leigh’s actress daughter Jamie Lee Curtis, and Anthony Perkins’ filmmaker son, Osgood Perkins.
