Holiday horror is fun unless the message is about getting the humbug pulled out of you.
Matt Thiesen and Justin Lee’s short film “Humbug” begins when a neighbor (Jessee Foudray) refuses to get into the Christmas spirit, a jolly citizen (Milly Sanders) takes matters into her own hands.
It would appear that the horror element is that the central character is turned into an annoying, brainwashed Christmas-obsessed suburbanite. In reality, there’s a “humbug” removed from her, which suggests she was possessed by something evil in the first place. While I don’t think it’s necessarily intentional, the message is confusing, suggesting that we’re bad people for not celebrating Christmas. Weird.
Anyway, it’s a fun short and really well made. Add it to your holiday horror playlist.
