Originally opened in 1969, Disney’s iconic attraction The Haunted Mansion received a live action, feature film adaptation in 2003, so you could say that we’re due for the dark ride being brought back to life on the screen. As it turns out, Disney had plans to turn it into an animated series in recent years, with Kubo and the Two Strings creator Shannon Tindle in charge.
Tindle took to Twitter over the long holiday weekend to share an early teaser trailer for the aborted project, featuring the voice of “Black-ish” star Marsai Martin.
“A little something I was cooking up at Disney, but was unfortunately scuttled,” Tindle tweeted. “Sure would’ve been fun!”
“My goal was to take inspiration from all the backstories created by the artists at WED [the name of Disney’s Imagineering division] and stitch it into one, giant narrative,” Tindle explained to Cartoon Brew. “The story would span several years and focus on different characters, but add up to one big, interconnected story.”
“I’d still love to jump back in and make this thing!” he noted.
