Stay with them… forever… and ever… and ever.
A pretty interesting commercial aired during the Academy Awards last night, which at first seemed to be promoting an upcoming television series set in the world of The Shining. What it actually was, however, was an ad for the upcoming Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, presented as a faux commercial for The Overlook Hotel.
Though inspired by Colorado’s Stanley Hotel, the Overlook Hotel is of course a fictional location; but thanks to The Academy, you can actually now place them a call!
At the end of the commercial, a phone number flashed on the screen, which is actually a real working number. When you call it (try a few times if you’re not getting through at first), you’re put on hold at the Overlook Hotel, treated to a series of “while you wait” messages that include menu listings and other fun (and creepy) nods to the movie.
What are you waiting for? Call 1-833-888-0237 now!
The Academy Museum is set to open in 2019, and it “will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and moviemaking.”
