Netflix Activates the Trailer for Smart House Horror ‘Tau’ Starring ‘It Follows’ Star Maika Monroe
It Follows star Maika Monroe gets strapped in once again in Federico D’Alessandro’s sci-fi thriller Tau, also starring Ed Skrein (Deadpool) and Gary Oldman (upcoming Darkest Hour). Streaming on Netflix globally on June 29, 2018, the film’s official trailer has been activated and turns a smart house into a haunted house.
“A once street-smart grifter, Julia (Monroe) who is the latest victim kidnapped and held captive in a fatal experiment. The only thing standing in the way of her freedom is Tau, an advanced artificial intelligence developed by Alex (Skrein), her captor. Tau is armed with a battalion of drones that automate a futuristic smart house. Tau’s potential is only limited by his understanding of the world he exists in, but Tau is ready for more. Julia, showing resourcefulness and courage, must race against time to bridge the boundaries between man and machine, connect to Tau and win her freedom before she suffers the same fate as the previous subjects.”
Tau is penned by Noga Landau and financed by Hercules Film Fund and Ken Kao’s Waypoint Entertainment under his first look deal with Addictive Pictures. David S. Goyer produced under his Phantom Four banner alongside Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder for Addictive Pictures and Kevin Turen.
The classic murder-mystery game Clue is headed back to screens both big and small, with Variety reporting this week that Sony is planning potential film and television adaptations.
Variety reports, “Hasbro Entertainment has closed a deal with Sony‘s TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for the film and TV rights for the beloved board game.”
“Sony is the perfect partner to adapt a property as culturally impactful and mystery-defining as ‘Clue,’” said Hasbro’s Zev Foreman and Gabriel Marano. “Nicole Brown, Katherine Pope, and their teams are tremendous creative collaborators and ideal partners to help us figure out after 75 years if it was Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the candlestick.”
Clue was created way back in 1943 by Anthony E. Pratt, and the board game was of course notably turned into a feature film starring Tim Curry in 1985 and a mini-series in 2011.
Ryan Reynolds had more recently been attached to star in a remake for 20th Century Studios, while Fox Entertainment had been developing an animated series a few years back.
