One film we’re really looking forward to is Xavier Gens’ (The Divide, Frontiere(s), The Crucifixion) Cold Skin, which premiered at last year’s Sitges Film Festival. Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired North American rights earlier this year and has revealed to Bloody they will release in theaters and on digital/VOD platforms September 7, 2018.
Cold Skin takes place on the edge of the Antartic Circle, in the years after World War I, a steamship approaches a desolate island far from all shipping lanes. On board is a young man, on his way to assume the lonely post of weather observer, to live in solitude for a year at the end of the world. But on shore, he finds no trace of the man whom he has been sent to replace, just a deranged castaway who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. The rest is forest, a deserted cabin, rocks, silence, and the surrounding sea. And then the night begins to fall…
It stars Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone, Big Game) and David Oakes (The Borgias, The White Queen) along with Spain’s double-Goya nominee Aura Garrido.
Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive first look at the official U.S. poster and trailer that looks like a Guillermo del Toro film, especially The Shape of Water, mixed with one of the three Planet of the Apes prequels. The footage gives away that Stevenson’s character intends on exterminating these creatures, all while Oakes is falling in love with one. The biggest punch to the gut comes when Stevenson exclaims that he’s invading their territory, giving the film some social relevance.
