Ahead of tonight’s San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount has surprised us all by declassifying the red band trailer for the top secret Overlord, a WWII genre film that looks straight out of “Wolfenstein”.
The trailer is ridiculously exciting and is jam-packed with nonstop action. Blasting AC/DC’s “Hell’s Bells”, Paramount is signaling to us that they think this is going to be a “fun” horror film, and show enough over-the-top footage that it’s hard not to grin from ear to ear. From what we can gather from the trailer, it looks as if these soldiers are going to have to go into battle against undead-ish super soldiers, created by some sort of Nazi serum. The biggest mystery box that this J.J. Abrams-produced horror film presents is the question as to who is behind the door at the end of the trailer? Hitler?
And for those asking about its possible Cloverfield connection, Bloody Disgusting confirmed with Paramount that this will not be part of the Cloverfield Universe.
In Overlord, “On the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success, but as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.”
Directed by Julius Avery, the film stars Jovan Adepo and Wyatt Russell (“Black Mirror”), with Jacob Anderson (“Game of Thrones”), Dominic Applewhite (The King’s Speech), Pilou Asbaek (“Game of Thrones”), Iain de Caestecker (“Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.”), John Magaro (The Big Short), Mathilde Ollivier (The Misfortunes of Francois Jane), and Bokeem Woodbine (“Fargo”).
Paramount Pictures will release the film on November 9, 2018.
